My first investment, I remember now. I made it at the dawn of my investment period. To the American telecommunication company AT&T. Mandrake and nervousness accompanied me at that moment, because I had to pay for the purchase with my own money, having received in return only expectations of ghostly profit. Having opened a securities account in my bank, I acquired these shares, hoping to get rich. By clicking on the option on my home computer about the execution of an order to purchase shares, I was proud to realize that I became an investor, albeit not a big one, but still.
Although my first investment was successful, as I earned about $ 100 (minus the commission for the purchase / sale and income tax). Now I clearly understand that this investment was not deliberate, not reasonable, or rather too speculative. I was waiting for big profits and arrived, but without waiting, I earned quite a bit. I held the stock for only two months three months.
The choice of this company was spontaneous. The price of one share was not high, about 19 dollars (now 38 dollars), and at that time this company was included in the Dow Djones index. At that time, it seemed to me that expensive stocks, over $ 20, have no potential for growth, because they are already so expensive. I didn’t particularly think about the company's capitalization, dividends. My motto at that time was “bought cheaply, sold expensive”, that is, my purchase and sale of shares was speculative. It was back in 2007, the crisis, as you remember, came in 2009. Holding these shares up to the present day, receiving dividends all these years, turned out to be a solid jackpot.
I don’t want to load you with numbers, how much I started investing, that is, how much money I invested, because for a real investor, the amount you can invest is more important. Rather, income is important, or it may be possible to make a profit, even in the distant future. Each of us investing money, hopes for success. Investment strategies can be very long, I'm talking about planning in the temporary space, this may mean that success will not come immediately.
I started investing my savings quite late in 33 years, sometimes I really regret the lost time. But what to do, such is life. In my opinion, it does not matter at what age to start investing, it is more important to take and start. I am very grateful to my friend, whom I have known for many years, because it was he who excited my interest in investing by letting me read several books.
