Apple is in talks with Intel to buy its business for the development and creation of 5G modems for $ 1 billion. This is the publication of The Wall Street Journal. The final results of the transaction will be known next week.
In April 2019, Intel announced that it would no longer engage in modem business after Apple signed an agreement with Qualcomm, which supplies modems for the iPhone. In this regard, Intel CEO Bob Swan said that without a main client there is no point in developing this business.
According to Apple, Intel will not have time to provide 5G modems for smartphones in 2020, so the company turned to Qualcomm. As a result, Apple decided to acquire the Intel department along with a patent portfolio and modem business employees.
